to facilitate the socio-economic and political mainstreaming of the neglected
and oppressed vulnerable groups in society.
Location: Tenali area of Guntur District in Andhra
Pradesh.
In the world today,
HIV/AIDS poses one of the greatest threats to all. Over 40 million people are
now infected with HIV.
- HIV/AIDS Spreading form urban to
rural area.
- Spreading form high-risk behavior
population to the general population.
- 89% of the reported cases are form
sexually active and economically productive group (15-49)
Many people do not know about HIV/AIDS that 40
million of that there are 11 million are between 15 to 24 years old. Yet
statistics show that in country, and have in India, state to state, people do
not know about HIV/AIDS.
- 30% of our population is the 10-24
year age group.
- The adoption of a healthy life
style by these young people can ensure the good health of future
generations.
Need
to talk:
Hence there is a need to
openly address the new and sometimes difficult issues that HIV/AIDS raises.
Need to talk about topics that are a taboo in society. Must create change in
society and ensure that a whole new generation of young people is able to
protect. For this knowledge is the key.
Change
in trend:
Young people are at a stage
of experimentation, trying out different life styles with a view of choosing
one that can adopt. Moreover, today expose to a wider range of choices and
enjoy greater freedom to make these choices.
Inserting
of value oriented life:
It is relatively easy to
install values and influence at this formative stage to develop responsible and
safe behavior in future life as compared to influencing a person is already
following a certain life style. Since the behavior of adolescents is flexible,
placing the facts and implications of different risky behavior patterns before
them will enable to make informed and responsible choice about their life
styles.
Young people learn a great deal from each other
and by sharing idea and experiences amongst themselves. Peer pressure is a
great motivating factor in the adoption of specific behavior patterns.
Therefore correct information and values imparted to one group of young will be
passed of to the other young people.
Severity
of HIV/AIDS:
Every day 14000 persons
are infected by HIV, this means that every minute 10 persons are getting
infected and one person is infected by every six seconds. 95% of these infected
persons belong to the developing countries. 7% of the infected persons are
below the age of 15 years of age, 50% are in the group of 15-24-years.90% of
HIV infected persons are in the age group 15-49 years.50% of HIV infected
persons are women and everyday 6000 pregnant woman are identified as HIV
positive. One third of HIV infected persons are unmarried. One in hundred
person around the world may be HIV infected .For the past two decades, 2.2
crore (22 million) deaths have been attributed to AIDS.70% of HIV infected
persons in the world live expectancy in Africa has fallen from 62 to 47 years.
The most number of HIV infected persons after Africa live in India.
Position
of AIDS in India:
In India, in 1986, the
first AIDS case was identified in Tamilnadu in a prostitute. In 1987, the first
case was identified in Andhra Pradesh. In India, the HIV infections were
estimated to be 35,37 and 39 lakhs for 1998,1999 and 2000 respectively
(3.5,3.7,3.9 million). The numbers of new infections were to 1.1 lakhs
(110,000) in 2001 as compared to 1.6 lakhs (160,000) in 2000. This shows that
while the disease is still spreading in the country, there is a gradual
decrease in new infections.
The infection estimates
for 2002 range from 38 to 46 lakh (3.8 to 4.6 million). In comparison to 37.7
lakh HIV infections in year 2001, there has been 45.8 lakhs infections in the
year 2002 m, showing an increase of about 6 lakh infections.
Andhra Pradesh occupies
the 1st place with highest note of HIV/AIDS infections. In Andhra
Pradesh, Guntur is in 1st position with number of HIV/AIDS cases.
The
condition of the HIV/AIDS infected people:
The HIV/AIDS affected
people are depriving from all their rights. Their family members are neglecting
them in every aspect. In some areas or villages natives are throwing HIV/AIDS
patients out of their villages. The patients are living like orphans. They are
leading an unwanted life.
The condition of the children
of the HIV/AIDS patients is more miserable. They are not allowed to mingle with
the other children of the society. Not only that they are being sending out of
the schools with the force of the parents of the other children.
Role
of NGO’s:
The government alone cannot afford or do all the necessary
aspects to the HIV/AIDS affect people. The NGO’s has to play vital and active
role in lighting up the lives of the HIV/AIDS patients. That is why our
organization
is striving hard in uplifting some of the needy hands.
Our
Mission;
- Creating awareness among the
people about HIV/AIDS.
- Giving shelter to 50 patients and
show them livelihood with hand works.
- Protecting and building up their
lives with complete medical care.
